Throughout New England, Comcast has technicians, engineers and other team members who live and work in the communities we serve, locally delivering our suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business products and services, including our fast, reliable network.
One of those team members is Jason, a Network Maintenance Technician based in Rutland, Vermont. We asked Jason to tell us more about his career, his commitment to providing reliable services and his favorite Xfinity product. Read on to see what he has to say:
Q. How long have you been with Comcast?
A. I have been with Comcast for 20 years. I grew up in Cavendish, Vermont and earned my electrical engineering degree at Vermont Technical College. I started with the company soon after and have been here ever since.
Q. What’s the best part of your job?
A. I enjoy working outside and I like the technical work, meeting new people, and traveling around the state and beyond. I start working early in the morning, so I also get to see beautiful sunrises.
Additionally, I’m a certified pole climber and use specialized equipment to safely climb and work from utility poles. I’ve been certified since I started working for the company 20 years ago. The benefit, especially in rural areas of Vermont, is that I can more easily maneuver in hard-to-reach spaces, such as poles set in densely wooded areas.
Q. What does your job entail?
A. As part of the Network Maintenance team, I’m out in the community to make sure our local network is in peak condition and meeting Comcast’s high standards for speed and reliability. It is a top priority for us, even if it means we’re out doing maintenance at an odd hour, or going out as soon as it is safe to address storm damage. We are also involved with building out our network to connect more homes and businesses in Vermont.
Q. What’s been one of your favorite projects to be a part of?
A. When Comcast acquired the Southern Vermont Cable Company in 2020, I was part of the team that helped introduce customers to our Xfinity products and services. The best part of that project was witnessing a customer’s excitement when they got access to our fast Xfinity Internet or our Xfinity X1 entertainment experience, which can be personalized and comes with the Xfinity Voice Remote.
Q. What is your personal favorite Xfinity product?
A. Xfinity Internet is my favorite product. At home, my family is always streaming on multiple devices at the same time, and it’s important that our Internet can not only keep up, but also stay ahead of our needs. For someone like me who cares for our network every day, it’s exciting to see how that work makes a difference when it comes to the speed and reliability of our home Internet.
Q. What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of work?
A. I love being outdoors, fishing, hiking and camping with my wife and two daughters. I also coach and sometimes referee my local youth sports teams. Additionally, my wife and I hold leadership roles in the Flood Brook Athletic Association, which runs the basketball, baseball and softball programs for five mountain towns.
