Throughout our Comcast Western New England Region, we have hundreds of technicians, engineers and other team members who live and work in the communities we serve, delivering our suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business services, including our fast, reliable network, locally.
One of those team members is Ben, a Southwick, Massachusetts resident, who works as a technician for our Comcast Business customers. We asked Ben to tell us more about his career, commitment to customer service and his community. Read on to see what he has to say:
Q: What is your role and how long have you been with Comcast?
A: As a technician, I install services for our new Comcast Business customers and ensure everything is running smoothly for our existing customers throughout western Massachusetts. This area is home to me – I grew up in South Hadley and now live in Southwick, where I’ve been raising my daughter for the past 15 years.
I recently celebrated my 17th anniversary with Comcast. My stepfather, who retired from the company after 39 years, recommended Comcast as a great place to work, and he was right. Two of my cousins also work for Comcast now, one of whom is a technician in Connecticut.
Q: What is the best part of your job?
A: My favorite part of my job is that it’s different every day. Our Xfinity 10G Network, which powers all of our Xfinity and Comcast Business services, is continually evolving, so there’s always something new to learn. My job also keeps me active, both mentally and physically.
Q: What’s something you do to provide a good customer experience?
A: I treat every customer the way I would want someone to treat my grandmother, who was one of my favorite people. I interact with people with varying levels of technical know-how, and I don’t mind taking some extra time to walk someone through how our services work, whether that’s showing them how to use their Voice Remote to easily find programming or how to set up a WiFi hotspot for their customers at their place of business. I think it’s important that they understand all the extra features included with their account so they can get the most value from their services. Overall, I want them to know they’re getting services from a company that is innovative and always thinking about the future needs of its customers.
Q: Do you have a memorable customer interaction?
A: My favorite project involves working with several customers all at once: Each September, I’m part of a project team that sets up services for dozens of vendors at New England’s biggest fair, The Big E. I really enjoy the energy of being part of a team that provides connectivity for an event that entertains so many people.
Q: What’s your personal favorite Comcast product?
A: I use our Internet service more than anything else. The speeds are incredible for the streaming and gaming I do with my daughter. And, as a technician at Comcast, I know the behind-the-scenes work that goes into delivering the speeds, coverage and capacity needed for us to enjoy these activities reliably and securely – our Xfinity 10G Network makes it all possible.
Q: What do you like about your community?
A: I love it here. Southwick is a great place to raise a family, and I enjoyed coaching my daughter’s soccer and softball teams when she was younger. Also, if you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend a stop at Village Pizzeria, a locally-owned restaurant that serves everything from pizza, grinders and Italian specialties, to calamari and even a waffle fry pizza.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A: I’m a big car guy. I am the owner/operator of a 1964 Chevy Nova, which can go ¼ mile in 9.7 seconds. I guess you could say that fast Internet and fast cars are both a big part of my life.
