Our Voices: Xfinity Store Managers Reflect During National Mentoring Month

Comcast mentors

At Comcast, we believe in fostering the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators. Project UP, our comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities, is one way we’re doing this. We also provide support and resources – including mentorship – to our employees, so they can grow their careers and achieve extraordinary things.

Throughout our New England Region, we’ve heard countless employees say that mentoring has helped advance their careers within Comcast. In fact, nearly all of our Xfinity Store managers started as entry-level retail associates and worked their way up to management. To celebrate January as National Mentoring Month, we asked a few employees to share advice they received from a mentor who helped them grow professionally. Here’s what they said:

Diego, Hyde Park, MA, Xfinity Store Manager: “My mentor told me to always believe in myself and focus on what I can control, and that everything else will fall into place. I took this advice to heart and made a point of boosting my self-confidence and focusing on my goals. Since I’ve made these changes, I have accomplished so much, including being promoted to manager.”

Etny, Groton, CT, Xfinity Store Manager: “One piece of advice that has made a significant impact to my career is to focus on my employees by developing, celebrating and encouraging them. Once I put this practice into place, it didn’t take long to see positive results. It feels good to celebrate my team and develop meaningful relationships. I’m also grateful that others took the time to develop, celebrate and encourage my professional growth along the way.”

Frankie, Gilford, NH, Xfinity Store Manager: “Early in my leadership journey, my manager reminded me of the importance of a steady, progressive approach to coaching and development: ‘Crawl, Walk, Run.’ This mantra has become a guiding principle for how I approach leadership — I start with the basics, build confidence, then gradually take on more responsibility.”

Shana, Burlington, VT, Xfinity Store Manager: “My current manager has instilled in me the importance of getting comfortable with being uncomfortable for the sake of accountability and progress. I’ve become a better manager by addressing business needs head-on, which has also resulted in more training opportunities for my team.”
