At Comcast, diversity, equity and inclusion is a core part of our company year-round – from the contributions of our teammates to our connections with our customers and communities. And in June, we are especially proud to highlight the LGBTQ+ community through our participation in parades, local partnerships and across our Xfinity platforms.
Here are some of the ways we are celebrating:
PrideFEST:
Our teams look forward to local Pride parades and events every year.
Earlier this month, Comcast sponsored PrideFEST in Middletown, Connecticut, one of the largest Pride events in the state. Some of our employees were on hand to volunteer at our vendor booth and participate in the Pride March, so we asked them for their thoughts on Pride Month. Read on to see what they had to say.
Carolyne, Regional Senior Vice President: “I’m a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community, and I was excited to represent Comcast at PrideFest. The positive energy, friendship and creativity I saw throughout the day was just extraordinary. It’s rewarding to work for a company that recognizes the importance of supporting all our customers and employees.”
Kristen, Vice President of Communications: “Having grown up in Middletown and being active in Middletown nonprofit organizations, like the Middlesex United Way and Middlesex Chamber, I am so proud to be part of the Middletown community and to support our Comcast involvement in MiddletownPRIDE. It’s amazing to see the camaraderie amongst our employees who came out to volunteer at this event over the last two years and it’s even better to hear the customers cheer us on as we proudly walked down Main Street – it was such a rewarding day! Thank you for everyone’s involvement to support the LBGTQ+ community in Middletown and throughout.”
Brad, Director of Community Impact: “Through my role, I have the unique opportunity to see firsthand how Comcast is making a difference in our local community, and it’s incredibly meaningful that our employees and their families continue to support the LGBTQ+ community through their participation in PrideFest. This event provides a platform for differences to be shared and celebrated, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Matthew, Director of Retail: “My family is passionate that everyone should be able to be their own true self and that everyone should be allowed the equality of life, love and happiness.”
Christopher, Facilities Manager: “I have several family members who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. My wife and I agree that we want to impart on our son that no matter how someone may look, think or feel, it’s important to stand up and support our fellow human beings. A little love goes a long way.”
Jessica, Xfinity Sales Manager: “I attended PrideFest to listen, learn and support the LGBTQ+ community. I admire the strength and resilience of this community, and I hope to help promote acceptance and contribute to creating a society where everyone can live authentically. Attending for me is about being an ally.”
Liz, Project Manager: “The LGBTQ+ community brings light to what they believe in and welcomes everyone from different walks of life with a smile and a hug. Their compassion for people is like no other, and I am proud to work for a company like Comcast that provides support to the LGBTQ+ community. It gives me the opportunity to show my support not only during Pride Month but every day.”
Community Partnerships
Creating meaningful partnerships where we live and work is something our teams take great pride in. Earlier this month we announced a grant to Transhealth, a non-profit and independent healthcare center that supports and empowers trans and gender-diverse individuals and families.
We also partnered with several LGBTQ+ organizations in the community to help them tell their story through Comcast Newsmakers, a short-form news platform where leaders and innovators exchange ideas and tackle issues facing communities. A few examples include:
