Comcast Completes Expansion of State-of-the-Art Network to Five Communities Across Eastern Connecticut

Comcast expands network in Eastern Connecticut

Comcast completed its project to connect more than 20,000 additional homes and businesses across five Eastern Connecticut communities – Griswold, Killingly, Plainfield, Putnam and Sterling – to reliable, high-speed Internet by expanding its network. This expansion enhances digital infrastructure, promotes economic growth, and positions residents and local businesses for success in an increasingly digital world. This network expansion brings Internet, mobile, entertainment, and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Business to residents and businesses.

In Killingly, Bob Dubois, President of Orion Utility Contractors, switched his business phone, Internet and mobile services to Comcast Business as soon as he learned the company expanded its state-of-the-art network to the area.

“At Orion Utility Contractors, we’re responsible for the construction and maintenance of power lines, as well as emergency storm restoration for electric utilities and municipalities across the Northeast. Reliable connectivity is critical to ensuring we get the job done quickly and safely, and none of that is possible without Comcast Business,” said Dubois. “Comcast Business helped improve our operations by providing a fast WiFi connection with seamless coverage across our office and warehouse. In addition, we’ve equipped all our tablets with Comcast Business Mobile, guaranteeing our field employees stay connected and always get the information they need, even when they’re in a bucket truck working on a utility line.”

Businesses can visit  Business.Comcast.com and residents can visit Xfinity.com to learn more and sign up for services. Comcast’s most recent expansion in Eastern Connecticut is part of the company’s latest investment in Connecticut, which also includes expansions to Stratford, Milford, Orange, Norwalk and Wilton as well as Litchfield, Morris, Torrington and Watertown.

“Comcast is committed to serving Connecticut and we’re continuously expanding our network to ensure more businesses and residents have the connectivity they need to thrive,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region. “By bringing our fast, reliable and secure Internet to thousands of addresses across Eastern Connecticut, we’re providing a new option in the area and delivering the best WiFi experience in and out of the home.”

What It Means for the Eastern Connecticut Community

Comcast’s commitment to communities goes beyond building the network and aims to increase economic mobility for the local community and its residents. That’s why Comcast created Internet Essentials, a broadband adoption program that offers eligible households low-cost, high-speed Internet and affordable computers. Additionally, over the past three years, Comcast has invested more than $12 million in cash and in-kind donations to support 195 nonprofits across Connecticut focused on helping people build digital skills, expanding WiFi-connected Lift Zones and funding connectivity and Internet adoption programs.
