Across New England, 2024 has been a big year, and that’s true for us at Comcast as well. We’ve expanded our network to new areas, introduced new products, engaged more local businesses, and partnered with our community to bridge the digital divide, all with a goal of connecting customers to what they love. Read on for some of the highlights from an impactful 2024:
Expanding Our Reliable, Fast and Secure Network in New England
Through network expansions, this year we brought Xfinity and Comcast Business services to thousands more residents and businesses across New England for the first time. These expansion projects enhance digital infrastructure, promote economic growth, and position residents and local businesses for success in an increasingly digital world.
Some of these projects include:
- Stratford, Norwalk and Wilton, CT, where construction began this summer to expand our network to nearly 73,000 homes and businesses. By September, residents in all three towns were able to start signing up for services.
- Northfield, NH, where residents were able to start signing up for service earlier this summer, with new homes and businesses being connected weekly. In total, more than 2,100 additional homes and businesses in Northfield will be connected to our network when the project is complete
- Westmore, VT, where we completed a project to bring our services to more than 400 homes and businesses
In Connecticut, Comcast was awarded more than $21 million by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to expand our network across 76 municipalities to bring gigabit-plus speeds to homes and businesses that were previously unserved or underserved with high-speed Internet.
Enhancing the Value and Innovation of Our Products
In 2024, we’ve added to our mobile, Internet, and entertainment offerings with innovative features and options.
Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile continue to offer some of the lowest prices on the market with residential customers saving up to 50% on their wireless bill when they switch from “the Big Three.” In addition to savings, this year we introduced WiFi Boost, which delivers speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second when customers connect to millions of Xfinity WiFi hotspots.
We launched Xfinity StreamSaver, a streaming bundle of Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+ that delivers savings of over 30% a year. By bringing these premium streaming services together for the first time, Xfinity is making it easy for customers to enjoy exceptional entertainment, including thousands of hours of live sports, from the best streaming apps at an unparalleled value.
We also introduced NOW, a brand of quality, low-cost Internet, mobile, and streaming TV products that customers can purchase month-to-month, whenever they want. Backed by the Xfinity network, NOW products feature all-in pricing, no contracts or credit checks.
For Internet customers, we increased speeds at no additional cost – something we’ve done every year for the past 20 years – making it easier to do more like video calling with friends, gaming, or streaming a movie with the family.
And the Paris Olympics was a milestone moment for Comcast, delighting fans across the country and driving massive viewership and engagement across NBCUniversal’s broadcast and cable networks, and streaming on Peacock. Comcast celebrated the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 with a Boston Celtics basketball clinic and a Men’s Basketball quarterfinals viewing party at the Auerbach Center at New Balance World Headquarters.
With Xfinity Store openings in Branford, CT and Braintree and Salem, MA, there are even more places to meet our team of local experts to ask questions and experience our products and services.
Connecting Local Businesses
For local businesses, Comcast Business offers a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless and managed solutions to help organizations of all sizes achieve their business goals. We shared the story of Thimble Island Brewing Company this year as they used solutions from Comcast Business to drive business growth.
Building a Future of Unlimited Possibilities in Our Communities
There are numerous organizations in New England working hard to increase Internet adoption and digital skills in our communities. Through Project UP, our $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity, we’ve partnered with several to help build a future of unlimited possibilities, including:
- Milford, CT Boys & Girls Club, who received a $20,000 grant and 50 laptops to help Club kids build skills and explore careers in STEM
- The Alliance for Digital Equity, who received a $50,000 grant and 30 laptops to help low-income families, older adults, and people living with disabilities get enrolled in affordable Internet programs across western Massachusetts
- Elder Services of Cape Cod, who received a $30,000 grant to assist senior citizens with digital skills training tailored to their needs
- Girls Inc. of NH, who received 50 laptops to provide Nashua students with the devices they need to do their homework and further their education
- The WorkPlace, who received a $20,000 grant to address digital literacy barriers for low-income Vermonters, age 55 and older, who are looking to expand their job skills and re-enter the workforce
Recognizing Our People
Each milestone this year – from expanding our network to opening new stores and launching products and features – is made possible by our dedicated team members. Those like Daniel and David, Technicians from Longmeadow, MA, who install Xfinity services in customers’ homes and Leticia, Senior Manager of Technical Operations, who manages logistics to ensure the day-to-day success of the Technical and Field Operation teams, work every day to provide a great experience for our customers.
Our employees also volunteered in their communities with Team UP, our national employee volunteer program.
Looking Ahead
We’re hard at work preparing to bring customers even more of what they love in 2025.
