Comcast unveiled an interactive video screen at the Falmouth Community Veterans Center, which aims to provide the support and information today’s Veterans and their families need. This donation is the latest example of Comcast’s ongoing commitment to the Military Community, rooted in creating creating unique opportunities for military customers to connect through our connectivity services, accessibility technologies, and special media experiences.
“Positioned at the entrance of the center, the interactive video screen provides a welcoming, innovative resource for local veterans,” said Carissa April, President of the Board of Directors for Joe Q Veterans Coffee Break, which is the operator of the Falmouth Community Veterans Center. “Thanks to Comcast, this interactive screen will help inform, entertain and connect area Veterans.”
“Comcast and the Falmouth Community Veterans Center share a commitment to the Military Community – active service members, reservists, military retirees and military spouses – to keep them connected to the tools and resources they need to thrive in a digital-first world,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region. “We provided them with this screen to give them an updated way to connect with local veterans.”
Earlier this year, Comcast introduced Xfinity Military Benefits for new and existing military-connected customers, which offers a variety of benefits including a $180 prepaid gift card that can be applied to their choice of Xfinity services, one free Xfinity Mobile line for a year, free Peacock Premium through the Xfinity Rewards program and more. Members of the military community can sign up for those benefits at www.xfinity.com/military.
Comcast is deeply committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves through Project UP, the company’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators. For example, Comcast recently donated 100 laptops to the Falmouth Service Center and announced $80,000 in digital equity grants to Falmouth-based organizations to support Digital Navigator programs to help people learn how to get online, use devices and acquire digital skills. Additionally, since its inception in 2011, Comcast’s Internet Essentials has connected more than 10 million low-income Americans to broadband service at home, including more than 732,000 in Massachusetts. And Comcast has launched more than 1,250 Lift Zones in community centers nationwide – with 76 locations in Massachusetts alone – to provide students and families with free, high-speed WiFi and digital skills training.
In addition to partnering with local nonprofits, Comcast has further invested in the area by turbo-charging its next-generation network in Falmouth earlier this year, with 2 gigabits-per-second (Gbps) download speeds and up to 10x faster upload speeds now available to all customers in the community over the connections already existing in homes and businesses.
