Our Voices: National Engineers Week

In honor of National Engineers Week, we asked several Comcast employees to talk about their role in building and maintaining the reliability of the Western New England Region’s’ network.
Here’s what they had to say:

John Fascendini, a Senior Manager of Network Maintenance, in Berlin, CT:

Q: How long have you worked at Comcast? Have you been in your current role the entire time?
A: I’ve been with Comcast for 37 years. Since 2010, I’ve been the Senior Manager of Network Maintenance. In this role, my focus is on the performance of our network. To sum that up, it’s all about engaging our employees cross-functionally to provide the best broadband and customer experience.

Q: On a daily basis, what does your job entail?
A: My day starts like everyone else’s. I wake up and get ready and head to work. But for me, it’s not just a job – it’s an opportunity to truly make a meaningful difference for our customers and employees. It’s invigorating to work with teams that want to be successful. We challenge each other and raise the bar and we don’t use words like “we can’t.” Instead we look at how we can do it just a little better than we have before.

Tim Dent, a Construction Supervisor from Lebanon, NH:

Q: How long have you worked at Comcast? Have you been in your current role the entire time?
A. This June will be 34 years. I started as a technician where I serviced customers and installed products. I then advanced to support our infrastructure and work every day to ensure network reliability for our products to make sure our customers have a great experience. I’ve been in my current role as Supervisor of Construction for seven years.

Q: On a daily basis, what does your job entail?
A: My first responsibility is working with my team on construction projects to support new customers so we can deliver the best customer experience.

Greg Krol from the Network Maintenance team in Westfield, MA:

Q: How long have you worked at Comcast? Have you been in your current role the entire time?
A: I’ve worked for Comcast for 22 years and have been in my current role as a network technician for 10 years. I started as a residential technician, servicing our customers and now support our business customers.

Q: What led you to enter the engineering field in the first place?
A: I’ve always worked closely with the engineering team as a service technician and really enjoyed it. So when a position opened up in engineering to support our launch of Comcast Business products, I applied for and received a role to support our enterprise businesses with the launch of Metro Ethernet. Now I work every day ensuring the reliability of our network to support our business customers.
