Comcast Awards $10,000 and 50 Laptops to Norwalk Housing Authority

Representatives from Comcast and the Norwalk Housing Authority (NHA) were joined by Connecticut State Senator Bob Duff at the Colonial Village Learning Center to announce a $10,000 grant and donation of 50 laptops to support the NHA’s Learning Centers to help advance digital equity.

Comcast donates 50 laptops to Norwalk Housing Authority

The Norwalk Housing Authority has three Learning Centers, which offer afterschool and summer programs for children grades K-5 living in assisted housing. The $10,000 grant helps fund the Learning Center’s Student Success Tutoring Program (SSTP), which builds digital literacy proficiency by equipping students with technology, teaching them online navigation and safety, and connecting them to remote tutors from prestigious institutions like Harvard Business School and Dartmouth. Additionally, the 50 donated laptops will replace the Learning Centers’ older desktop computers.

Senator Bob Duff

“I applaud Comcast for providing this generous donation to the Norwalk Housing Authority because all kids should have equal access to computers and the Internet,” said State Senator Bob Duff. “This grant will expose more students to technology, STEM experiences and positive role models, which will set them up for success in school and future job opportunities.”

“We are deeply grateful to Comcast for their generous donation of 50 laptops, which will enable our Learning Centers to expand the one-on-one tutoring sessions that are making a measurable difference in students’ classroom achievement,” said Wendy Gerbier, Director of the Norwalk Housing Authority Learning Centers. “This grant also allows us to strengthen the computer literacy component of our Student Success Tutoring Program, equipping students with confidence and skills to excel academically and prepare for the technology-driven future.”

The donation from Comcast is part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers and creators.

The donation is also an example of Comcast’s latest investment in Connecticut, which includes a project to expand its state-of-the-art network to bring Internet, mobile, entertainment, and security services from Xfinity and Comcast Businessto 73,000 homes and businesses in Fairfield County, including nearly 43,000 new homes and businesses in Norwalk.

Carolyne Hannan

“We are excited to be part of the Norwalk community and are grateful to the Norwalk Housing Authority for welcoming us as a community partner,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region. “Comcast is proud to support programs, like NHA’s Learning Centers, because we know the profound impact that broadband can have on closing the homework gap and providing opportunities for college and career readiness.”

Comcast is deeply committed to advancing digital equity in the communities it serves. Over the past three years, the company has provided more than $12 million in cash and in-kind contributions to 195 non-profits in Connecticut. This investment includes digital equity programs such as Internet Essentials, Lift Zones and Digital Navigators. Since its inception in 2011, Comcast’s Internet Essentials has connected more than 344,000 low-income Connecticut residents to broadband service at home. Additionally, Comcast has launched 32 Lift Zones in Connecticut to provide free, high-speed WiFi and digital skills training at local community centers to promote digital learning.

Throughout Connecticut, Comcast provides Internet, mobile, and entertainment from Xfinity to residents, and connectivity, networking, cybersecurity, mobile, and managed solutions from Comcast Business to businesses.
