Empowering Local Youth: How Comcast’s Lift Zone in Laconia Is Fueling Academic Success
When Comcast began expanding its network in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, one of its first community investments was connecting the Lakes Region Boys & Girls Club as a Comcast Lift Zone in 2021. This initiative brought free, high-speed Internet service to the Club, creating a reliable space for young people to access the Internet, participate in virtual learning, and build digital skills.
Since then, more than 500 local kids have benefited from the Lift Zone – and with the 2025-26 school year underway, the impact continues to grow.
We recently caught up with a few teens who shared how the Lift Zone is helping them thrive academically:
- Abigail from Laconia said she was able to learn about coding, go to a NASCAR event for the first time and make music.
- Kyle from Laconia credits the Lift Zone and his ability to get on the Internet at the Club as invaluable for completing his homework and improving his schoolwork.
- Lyndsey from Gilford shared that the Life Zone allowed her to use Duolingo to learn Spanish for better communications with her grandparents.
“We’re grateful for Comcast’s continued support of the Lakes Region Boys & Girls Club,” said Chris Emond, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central and Northern New Hampshire.
Expanding Access Across the Lakes Region
Comcast’s commitment to the Lakes Region doesn’t stop at the Club. The company continues to expand its network, offering residents and businesses new options for fast, reliable Internet and mobile services. Recent expansions to Franklin and Northfield build on completed expansions to Belmont, Gilford, Laconia, and Tilton – part of Comcast’s broader investment in New Hampshire.
