Comcast Brings Cybersecurity Education and Laptop Donations to Longmeadow Seniors at Richard Salter Storrs Library

Representatives from Comcast and its Cybersecurity team, partnered with the Richard Salter Storrs Library in Longmeadow to share actionable advice to stay safe online, refresh digital literacy skills, and provide tips to avoid phishing and other online scams to 15 local seniors. The attending seniors were also provided with new laptops from Comcast.

“We recognize that digital literacy is essential for success in today’s world,” said Dan Glanville, Vice President of Government Affairs and Community Impact for Comcast’s New England Region. “We hope that this program provides helpful digital resources and impactful programming for participants.”  

“Today’s session provided invaluable, practical advice for each of our local seniors in attendance,” said Heather Marchetta, Director of Adult Services for the Richard Salter Storrs Library. “In fact, it was so impactful, we believe they will be able to teach their grandkids a lesson about cybersecurity. We know that each attendee appreciated the information and new laptop from Comcast.”  

This grant from Comcast is part of Project UP, Comcast’s comprehensive $1 billion initiative to connect people to the Internet, provide digital opportunity and build a future of unlimited possibilities.  Comcast is deeply committed to advancing digital opportunity in the communities it serves. This commitment includes programs such as Internet Essentials,  Lift Zones and Digital Navigators. Since its inception in 2011, Comcast’s Internet Essentials has connected more than 801,000 low-income Massachusetts residents to broadband service at home. Additionally, Comcast has launched 76 Lift Zones in Massachusetts to provide free, high-speed WiFi and digital skills training at local community centers to promote digital learning. Comcast also has 12 Digital Navigator programs throughout Massachusetts.
