Comcast Receives 12 Awards from Massachusetts Broadband Institute’s Residential Retrofit Program

Comcast is the recipient of 12 awards under the Massachusetts Broadband Institute’s Residential Retrofit program, which provides funding for network projects in public or affordable housing properties. This program will benefit residents in apartment buildings throughout the Commonwealth including in the cities of Boston, Cambridge, Haverhill, Lowell, Somerville and Springfield.

“We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Massachusetts Broadband Institute by being the recipient of awards under the Residential Retrofit program,” said Carolyne Hannan, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s New England Region. “This program will allow Comcast to continue to deliver the best connectivity experience to thousands of residents living in public and affordable housing properties across Massachusetts.”

One of the affordable housing properties is Rindge Commons in Cambridge, MA. In addition to retrofitting the original Rindge Commons’ building, which was built in 1970, Comcast recently provided Just A Start, a nonprofit organization with a $70,000 grant to further its workforce development efforts along with 24 laptops for residents of Rindge Commons. Combined with the best connectivity experience, the laptops will help empower residents to explore technical capabilities to set them up for their professional futures. “Comcast continues to shine as a great community partner – whether it’s through support of digital skills training or its recent laptop donation,” said Carl Nagy, CEO of Just A Start. “Our patrons will also benefit from this retrofit work and look forward to continued reliable Internet service once it’s completed.”
