Q. How many years have you been with Comcast and what does your role entail?
A. I’ve been with Comcast for 24 years and have held a few different roles during that time. In my current job, much of my work involves managing logistics to ensure the day-to-day success of the Technical and Field Operation teams. I’m especially passionate about employee development, team building, collaboration across teams and the customer experience.
Q. What is your background and how has it shaped you?
A. I am the oldest of four girls and was raised in a hard-working Mexican family in California with strong ties to the Catholic faith. I grew up with a strong sense of community and my education, family traditions and friends were all tied to the Church. To this day, my mother hosts fundraisers for people in need in our community. This background has instilled in me the value of family and community, which is also part of the culture here at Comcast.
Q. What are some family traditions that are important to you?
A. Birthdays and the traditional Catholic holidays were big celebrations in my upbringing, and I have a lot of wonderful memories of Christmas and Easter. I also believe that food brings people together, which is why I enjoy sharing my homemade salsa and tacos with my team.
Q. What has influenced your career journey?
A. I’ve had some incredible mentors in my personal and professional life who encouraged me to take risks, such as relocating for new job opportunities that have helped progress my career.
Growing up, most people in my community went right to work after high school instead of going to college. Similarly, I got a job at 18 to support myself. Then, I was able to take advantage of Comcast’s tuition reimbursement program to earn my associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degrees! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to pursue higher education, which has opened doors for me.
Q. How do you celebrate your heritage at Comcast?
A. I’m proud to serve as one of the co-leads for Unidos. We coordinate internal activities for our members and get involved doing community volunteering. For instance, some of our members recently represented Comcast at Fiestas Patronales de Holyoke Massachusetts, which celebrates the music, food and dance of Puerto Rican culture. This event was a great venue to support our Hispanic communities and also share information about our multicultural offerings like NOW TV Latino.
My participation in Unidos has been a wonderful leadership development opportunity for me and helped me to learn about other Latino cultures that I’ve had little exposure to until now, such as Dominican and Puerto Rican cultures.
Q. What is your favorite Xfinity product?
A. Xfinity Mobile is my favorite product for a couple reasons. My family is very close, but we’re spread out around the country, so it’s a valuable tool for us to stay in touch. My wife, children and mother are all on my Xfinity Mobile plan and I like that I can customize the service to suit everyone’s needs. It’s no surprise that my kids use a lot more data than my mother, so they have Unlimited plans while Mom has a By the Gig plan.
Q. What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
A. My wife and I own an organic farm in New Hampshire focused on sustainable agriculture and natural food options. My wife is the main steward of the business, but we’re a team and there is always a chore or project to do, which we enjoy doing together.
